Weird Wednesday (I almost forgot!)

I was coming to the computer and thinking I must blog something today. I read an old blog post from someone else about posting the process of a quilt and decided to show you the fabrics and pattern I chose for my SIL #2 quilt for Christmas.

Until, that is, I logged on and saw a Yahoo headline about Oprah surprising her audience with a trip but the host country is also paying for it.  I had to see what that was about.

Now, to my friendly Aussie's out there, I have one thing to say, "I hope to hell it works." For me, I still think that it will be hard to drum tourism for one of the places with some of the most deadly annimals/insects/etc. on earth under any circumstances. Best of luck to you!

And alright, just because I have it ready, here is the fabric (from mom's collection in my stash) and the pattern (Baby Harlequin in McCalls Quick Quilts October/November 2010 magazine) for SIL #2 quilt.  I will not make strips of the diamonds, just use these fabrics to have random colored diamonds all over the quilt.

What do you think? The flowered fabric at the top and bottom will be the backing.

Cheers! Beck

  1. Hey, Beck. What beautiful fabrics. I'd probably add some dark fabrics to that wonderful collection of mediums. They'll be dots to keep the eyes moving from place to place since you aren't doing the rows. But, that's just my cent and a half. Lane

  2. Thanks Lane! I welcome the suggestions so feel free to keep em coming! I did think about that but frankly, I ended up deciding against it. I don't know how to describe why except to say that I really want the subtlety *I think* I will be created with the only shading being the change of fabrics.

I do think I'm weird, yes, but consider it an experiment. It will either look neat or it will look pretty dang B-O-R-I-N-G. :D

  3. As a tax payer I'm a little pissed that we're paying 2.3 million for Oprah to swan around Sydney. I dont mind that a load of American people get to see our beautiful country - I just dont want to pay for it.

Right- with that off my chest...

I love these very girly fabrics, which is unlike me not being a girly girl. I love what you've got pegged for the backing. Keep us posted on your progress.

  4. A lovely choice of fabrics for the quilt, very pretty.
As long as Oprah and her lucky pals stay in the cities here, they should be safe from sharks, snakes, spiders or drop bears!!
