No poundage lost or gained this or last week to be able to report in on.
Good: no poundage gained and no over eating.
Bad: no exercise last week while the hubs was here unless you count a quickie under the sheets. HA! Didn't think I'd go there, did you?! Well, it was either that or showing you a before picture I decided to take in a bikini from back when to keep myself motivated. Trust me, you got the nicer end of the deal.
Started again this week, visiting with my new nemisis Jillian Michaels. Bitch was right, even after a couple short weeks, my cardio shape is noticeably different to me.
How are you others doing? Come on, fess up...
This blog is primarily about quilting & sewing but also incorporates a bit about my journey to a healthy lifestyle and my family. All of it will include a healthy bit of sarcasm, mostly at myself, but really, none one is safe!

Ramiken Chicken Pot Pies
I've never made pot pie before and this wasn't as creamy (gravy-like in the pie itself) as I generally like but that's because I wasn't paying attention and had a little wine (or 3)! However, it was yummy and so I'm posting it.
First, I decided to use my ramikens. I have these, I use them mostly for my individual fruit crisps, but decided that if I used them for pot pies, I could freeze the extras and make the left over roast chicken I had last even longer. So that's what I did.
INGREDIENTS:
spray butter 1 1/2 tsp chicken buillion (or one cube)
1 Tbsp. paprika 1 Tbsp. savory seasoning blend
salt & pepper 1 Tbsp. flour
2 - 2 1/2 cups cooked chicken 2 large carrots, chopped
1/3 large onion, diced 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cup peas 3 small to medium potatos, cut into small cubes
1 box (32 oz) chicken broth (or stock) 1/2 cup milk
2 Tbsp. grated parmesan cheese 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 box pre-made pie crust (cotains 2 crusts), unrolled and each cut into quarters
DIRECTIONS:
1. Sautee onions and garlic in olive oil for about 5 minutes on high heat. Add carrots and reduce heat to medium high. Cook about 3 more minutes.
2. Add potatoes, chicken broth, savory seasoning, paprika, chicken buillion, salt and pepper. Stir, cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Add peas and chicken, cover and cook 5 more minutes or until potatoes are done. (You may reduce heat if necessary but stop cooking before potatoes lose all firmness. You are baking them so you want a little firm left.)
Houston? We have a problem.
Thank you, Govenor. Problem solved.
3. Using a slotted spoon, pull all the veggies and chicken out of the pot and put aside in a larger bowl. Save broth in the pot, leave on medium heat. Add parmesan cheese and stir to let it melt in add more salt and pepper. (You can see both pot and bowl in this photo.)
4. Ladle out about 1 cup of liquid into a small bowl or a cup. Whisk flour into cup of broth until it has dissolved, set aside.
5. Add milk to the broth in the pot. Add flour/broth mixture back to the broth in pot. Stir to combine. Reduce heat and cook uncovered for 5 minutes. Broth will thicken slightly. You can do whatever you need/want at this point to make this more gravy like or you can leave this as is. I'm sure using less than 32 oz of broth would help it thicken, also.
6. Remove from heat, pour over chicken and veggies.
Stir and then ladle mixture into each ramiken.
7. Once the ramikens are full, take a piece of pie crust and put it over the top. Seal the crust around the edge of the ramiken. I just cut off excess crust if I had it but if you don't want to do that, you don't have to. Spray tops of crusts lightly with spray butter and poke some holes in the tops to let steam escape.
8. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes. When crust is done, pie is done.
(Note, this method works wtih just about any meat and veggie pairing and because it's a ramiken, you can make one at a time if you wanted in your toaster oven, even, using deli meat and canned or frozen veggies.)

How do you plead?
"I plead, guilty, your honor."
That's all I can say. The hubs was home last week for the week. I was off work for the week. It was going to be nice. No work, just emptying some more moving boxes (I'm on the 6 months to unpack plan) and work on quilting projects. Monday or Tuesday I was to send out the giveaway prizes.
Here's what I accomplished for your viewing pleasure.
Yeah, no pictures, there's nothig wrong with your computer. I didn't get anything done. Well, one thing. I've designed a new quilt at The Hubs request.
The purpose of this quilt, is as a thank you gift to Ronnie Smith and Suzanna Love of Ronnie Smith Kennels for their expertise and training of our dog Jo-Jo. The training was an invaluable gift of their time to enable Mike and I to get Jo-Jo hunt ready for the wounded warrior hunts we got him to participate in. I started with this:
I decided to see what it would look like with embroidery. What do you think? The second one with the embroidery is better, isn't it? I like the idea of 4 huntsmen, surrounded by various dog breeds they work with and upland game birds surrounding those. The photo is just stock embroidery pictures on EQ6 but I would find specific ones for this project.
I wonder, is there anyone out there who does embroidery that I can pay you to do this portion for me? I'd send the fabric to embroider upon and pay you for thread, design and time. Anyone? Email me if possible. My embroidery skills are not up to task - not enough practice with my machine and I am fearful... maybe I just need to get lessons but we want to get this out before Christmas and I'm just too realistic enough to think I can get it to the level I'd like before then.
Of course, there is a third alternative, find fabric "scenes" for those tan blocks instead of embroidery.
What do you think? Inquiring minds want to know.

Fall Into Fall Giveaway Winners
The giveaway started simple enough. I was celebrating 200 posts, and wanted to have a giveaway. What do you want to do?
First, administrative requirements:
1) If you are here for the giveaway, please follow this link. If you haven't entered, you still have time, it runs until the 15th.)
2) It's weigh-in wednesday. I link over here to report along with my reporting here. I've only lost 2 lbs. but I'm not discouraged. It's a certain time where a loss (even a small one) is well received. I suspect next week will be better but we'll see. Oh, and I'm not really sore anymore but do tire easily. Clearly, I need to rework my diet to get the right mix of proteins, carbs and sugars for energy with these workouts. Again, given the timing, it may just be this week but we'll see and if I don't fix it on my own, well, I have a dietician as a sister in law! I'm sure she'll have some recommendations.
3) Ms. P. I cannot email you, they all bounce back. I cannot Skype until the 20th when my new minutes start for my internet usage. Drop me a line and check in, would ya? I miss my friend and that's all I say here on this post. -wink-
Now, onto my question in the title. Ms. P and I started chatting about quilt alongs and I think I'd like to host one. Don't stress, it will not be until next year, after the holidays. It will give us all a chance to wind down from the year and gear up for fun next year. That said, I designed 3 quilt tops yesterday with EQ6 and I am thinking I will do a trial run of the top prior to hosting the quilt-along so I can provide assistance.
So, your votes are needed. In your comments please answer the following:
1) Are you interested and willing to try some paper-piecing (I promise to give instructions and guidance)?
2) Should we have this begin in Jan., Feb. or March? (I am personally leaning toward Feb or March but don't let that sway you! lol)
3) Choose one option below for the style. (Maybe if this works out we can do the other ones later on.) All measure to 50" x 50" w/out the borders, 54x54 w/borders.
OPTION 1 (traditional piecing with only 4 paper-pieced blocks.)
OPTION 2 (Lonestar & 4 paper-pieced blocks. I think the star will be more difficult to handle than the paperpiecing for most.)
OPTION 3 (All paper-piecing but the same block repeated and a simple block at that. Color schemes are endless for this one.)
So, what do you think? I won't be insulted if you aren't interested, I promise. I will just go cry in the corner.

Favorite Things Friday

It's Favorite Things Friday, hosted by Mrs. Pyjamas. My favorite things? Mugs with personal meaning or apropo sayings.
I used to work at McDonald's in highschool and college. I think I earned this mug as incentive one year. I just think the Ronald McDonald feet are funny so I've kept it. Now country singer Toby Keith? He's one of my favorites because he sings fun, catchy tunes. Seems down to earth, invited my husband in for a drink on his bus (and hubby went, not to drink, he was in uniform) but did hang while Toby Keith had a drink... and frankly, because he's the only star I've ever had a photo with. See?
(Back on topic...but not after I say, he made me feel petite.)
Dumbo was always my favorite Disney character. A gift from my mom when I was in college. The tall mug, bought last year for the simple reason, some days I just HAVE that feeling. The smiley. A secret Santa gift from a friend in highschool because I hated the mornings and still do. Coffee helps, but it's a mug I've always cherished. I think said long-lost friend would be amazed I still have it.
And there you have it, my small but growing selection of mugs I love. You can see I don't grab just anything but I do enjoy these ones very much. It's quite sad Toby has a chip in him.

The quilting one, a new one which reflects my 2 passions. Drinking and quilting. It's a morning reminder not to do both! (Okay, drinking is not a passion but it sounded good). The name mug, that was given to me when I was a kid (we each got one) for the winter hot chocolates when I was growing up!

Progress and I NEED YOUR HELP

I'm making progress on the Harlequin quilt. I laid out some of the sewn rows but stopped when trouble-maker decided it was an invitation.
I will post a quick tutorial on cutting these and sewing these if there is interest (I already know of one person so I can send it only to her or post here). It's super easy. If it weren't so close to the holidays, I'm thinking it would have made a great quilt along. Anyone else interested in a tute for putting this kind together?
The help: There is a blogger out there (it might be a team) who has created a couple of patterns, they are applique, on a white background with bright, cheerful colors, and one is a tree while one is flowers. They are probably pillow size or wall hanging size patterns. I thought I bookmarked them but it appears I didn't. These are modern patterns, made and posted in the last year. Think along the lines of Crazy Mom Quilts, Red Pepper Quilts, etc (but it's not those two). Anyone? Link anything you might think is relevant or email me, please? I really wanted these patterns and searched for over 2 hours in my links last night. Thank you in advance for any assistance (fruitful or not)!

Jillian Michaels and Weigh-in Wednesday)

Today is weird, why? Jillian Michaels. She's turned me into an awful, mean, foul-mouthed person. Okay, I've always ben that way, she just brings it out in me. Do you remember this post about losing weight? I did very little but check my eating after that post. No real exercise, then eventually the good eating slid too, I'd think, "so what? I'm okay like this." Well, I hit another "stop it and get healthy again you jerk," moment and am starting anew. I WILL keep it going this time and I've started by getting the exercise train going in with the eating healthier train. I bought 2 DVDs, both by Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Loser. The first one is "30 Day Shred" and I started on Sunday the other is a Yoga one that I hope to start in a week or so. Below is a description of how it is going.
Here's the deal, if you don't like posts full of curse words, STOP reading as soon as this paragraph ends. Skim until you see the next portion of this post where I've written, "SAFE TO READ" and read from that portion to the end of the blog. I thought about sugar-coating but frankly, it just won't do it justice.
Paraphrasing (and it's still long, be warned):
JM: Hi I'm Jillian Michaels and I'm going to walk you through a 4 part, 20 minute routine. 2 minutes to warm up, 3, 6-minute sessions which incorporate both strength and cardio training.
Me: Cool. Got it and ready to go.
-warm-up commences, I'm starting to feel a little winded- (Sad, isn't it?)

JM: I want every single second of this workout to count. You don't get to do a 20 minute workout with taking a break, I really want you to push

JM: Back into squat and press

JM: If you need to take no more than a 5 second rest.
Me: good
JM: The reason we don't want you to rest is we want your body to change as quickly as possible and in order to do that we put stress on it. That's how things change, by putting stress on your body, it will adapt.
Me: fine, fine. no rest.
JM: 2 min. of cardio, jumping jacks
Me: groan
JM: I designed it this way to get as lean as possible in shortest amount of time.
Me: whatever
JM: jump rope. Keep core tight, arms at 90 degrees
Me: shut up.
JM: jumping jacks

JM: It might be hard now but you will find if you are diligent with thisyour body will change, jump rope.

JM: lunge and bicep curl, have to do both b/c not enough stress just to work biceps. Not an efficient workout.

JM: no resting right back into dumbell rows 2 things I want to show you...
Me: really, stop fussing about my form, it's easier when my form sucks.

JM: I know it's hard, I get it, it's not easy but if we are going to make big promises to you, we have to deliver and if you want those results, you have to fight for it.

JM: to the floor and chest flies. This is your recovery, the weight is going down but still controlling those muscles.

JM: Almost done for strength and then this is going to be it for work out one

For the last 2 days (and I suspect today) I don't know what it means NOT to be sore. I'm convinced that's why I've got such hard words for Ms. Jillian Michaels. The thing is, I need to be yelling back, so I stay home, let everyone not see what a mean person I can be. I can't hire a personal trainer because frankly, I need to be able to express myself if I'm working that hard.
Okay, so I've combined the workout from h e double hockey stick with my points watching through Weight Watchers. That means, fresh ingredients so I have to cook, so I know what I'm eating, etc.
Last night: Parsely crusted cod and wild and long grain brown rice w/broccoli (adapted a recipe I found, let me know if you want me to post it here)
lunch today:
A grilled roast beef sandwich and the same rice mixture. Only 4 points total! woo-hoo
The sandwich had 2 superthin roast beef slices, a little pineapple mustard, sauteed onions, and, cucumber. Different but it worked. I think dill pickles will be best next time.
Personally, I think it's weird I'm having conversations with the Jillian Michaels on the DVD but it makes me wonder, if I ever met her one day, would I let her know I ever wrote this post?
So, my weigh in today is 5'2", 157lbs., and barely making it through Level 1 of the 30 Day Shred Workout. Anyone want to join me?

Today is weird, why? Jillian Michaels. She's turned me into an awful, mean, foul-mouthed person. Okay, I've always ben that way, she just brings it out in me. Do you remember this post about losing weight? I did very little but check my eating after that post. No real exercise, then eventually the good eating slid too, I'd think, "so what? I'm okay like this." Well, I hit another "stop it and get healthy again you jerk," moment and am starting anew. I WILL keep it going this time and I've started by getting the exercise train going in with the eating healthier train. I bought 2 DVDs, both by Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Loser. The first one is "30 Day Shred" and I started on Sunday the other is a Yoga one that I hope to start in a week or so. Below is a description of how it is going.
Here's the deal, if you don't like posts full of curse words, STOP reading as soon as this paragraph ends. Skim until you see the next portion of this post where I've written, "SAFE TO READ" and read from that portion to the end of the blog. I thought about sugar-coating but frankly, it just won't do it justice.
Paraphrasing (and it's still long, be warned):
JM: Hi I'm Jillian Michaels and I'm going to walk you through a 4 part, 20 minute routine. 2 minutes to warm up, 3, 6-minute sessions which incorporate both strength and cardio training.
Me: Cool. Got it and ready to go.
-warm-up commences, I'm starting to feel a little winded- (Sad, isn't it?)

Spinach, Basil and Tomato Pizza
All I can say is, YUM. I often make a quick appetizer where I slice roma tomatoes, add chopped basil, salt, pepper and then mozzerella chees. I bake it at 350/375 until the cheese melts and just starts to brown. It's a hit in our house and good. The other day, I decided to add it to a pizza.
Ingredients:
2-3 Medium Roma tomatoes, sliced about 1/4" thick
1/2 cup chopped, fresh, baby spinach
1/4 cup chopped fresh, basil (get fresh, trust me)
1/4 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 1/2 TBSP herb cream cheese
4 oz shredded mozzerella
salt and pepper
Instructions:
1. Since I am too afraid (wait, I mean I don't want to dirty the eating table and the counter doesn't have enough room!) to make my own pizza crust, I buy from the store and pre-bake according to instructions.
2. While the pizza crust is pre-baking, sautee the onions and garlic in a little extra virgin olive oil until tender crisp (or the onion is starting to become translucent.) I also use the opportunity to chop the tomatoes, basil and spinach if it hasn't been done yet.
3. When crust is pre-baked, remove from oven. Put cream cheese in center of the crust and spread all over. It will melt as you spread, no worries about that.
4. Spread onions and garlic evenely over crust, then lay tomatoe slices in one layer.
5. Add spinach and basil evenly over the top.
6. Sprinkle salt and pepper, then the mozzerella, over it all.
7. Put it back in the oven for 6-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and just starts to brown.
NOTE: Do not forget about it, do not let the cheese get this brown, it's overbaked at that point.
BONUS NOTE: Even overbaked, it's still yummy! Especially with a good Pinot Grigio. This particular one is Kris 2009.
Enjoy... pizzas are becoming one of the best experimental dinners for all of us in the house.

Fall Into Fall Giveaway

First Choice: A Dish Drying Mat - (measures 15.5" x 10")
I got this idea from AmyLouWho in last Friday’s Sew and Tell post. When I have people over for the holidays, I have many delicate dishes or glasses (like my wine glasses, hello!) that I don’t want to put in or don’t have room for in the dish washer. They are usually hand washed and left to dry on a kitchen towel. Instead, use this. It’s 2 holiday fabrics with a towel as batting so it will absorb the dripping moisture but be a pretty place on your counter in the interim!
Second Choice: A reversible Table Runner - (measures 37.25" x 11.75")
A little off on my binding stitching but still pretty!
The design and theme lend themselves to simpler times, more folksy or country-style décor but are still fun enough and bright enough to warm your heart.
Third Choice: A reversible Candle Mat - (measures 20.5" x 15.5")
The candle covers it but the quilting lines do not exactly intersect in the middle of the mat. They aren't really far off but if there is nothing on the middle, the white thread will show the lack of precision there.
