J's 2011 quilt

Don't forget to keep working those PP blocks QAL participants!

J was at it again. I think we will have a great quilter on our hands if I can keep him doing at least one quilt per year. :)

He designed, helped make, and helped quilt this little quilt for his now 5 month old half brother. He gave it as a surprise last weekend and I'm told it was liked by his dad and step-mom so HOORAY J, way to be creative.  I love you kid!

Another past finish

This is another post I meant to post during my non-sewing summer but forgot. This is the second teacher gift J made last Spring for his teacher. This time, though, he designed it completely and worked in secret with his art teacher for all the kids to sign it and present it to his 4th grade teacher.

My only "difficulty" was the corner sewing since he had the fabric borders extend past each side to the corner.

I'm proud of his creativity and generosity!

J loves color

You know, I'm beginning to think 50% of J's sewing/quilting interest is knowing I post about it/him on this blog. He always comes to see who's commented. So, if you can leave a comment, I'm sure he (and I will) appreciate it.
The latest: a pillow case to go with his lap quilt and his bed quilt.  Here's the pillow case:

He participated in a lot of the sewing on this one. He's getting more comfortable sewing those straight seams!

Oh, and for those that don't know, the quiltlet at the top of my page was designed by both of us and made by both of us as a teacher's gift this year. The teacher also loves rainbow colors and he had been planning it since October.

Way to go, J, I'm very proud of you!

J does it again - teacher gift

My youngest, J, has the quilting bug! He may deny it but if I try hard, I might be able to keep him interested even through his teen years. :)

His teacher loves bright color. He enjoys his teacher and her class. He decided he wanted to make her a wall-hanging for Christmas. We browsed some blogs/photos/patterns and saw one (can't remember where) which gave J and I the basis for what was created. I picked the layout, J designed it and choose all the colors (and most of the fabric).

He helped sew the blocks, I added the sashing and the decorative stitching. He helped with the quilted "X"s.

I'm dang proud of this kid and he's proud of himself, too. He gave it to his teacher (which made her cry, he said) and then she showed it to the principal (which made her cry, too)!

Hmm, I'm just glad he's learning the fastest way to a woman's heart is by being heartfelt in his giving. :D

"J" interrupts my project schedule

Has it really been 11 days since my last post? My goodness, a lot has happened. Hmm, I finished that "ugly challenge." Polls close today. I'm amazed to see the creativity of these women on the site. Everyone did a beautiful job working their ugly fabric in. In the meantime, my family and I came up with a fun way to share the ugly. More on that later, though, when I can dedicate an entire post to it. Today's entry is about my youngest son, "J."

I went to the store to pick up some fleece to back a quillow top. I created a quillow for my friend's dd for her first communion. It came out very nice and I was asked to forward a pattern. Since I made it up, I'll be posting a tutorial here when I've finished it. I would have that done already but I was delayed by J. He was at the store with me and asked me to make him a blanket so sweetly, I couldn't resist. We bought 10 fat quarters, 2 half yard cuts of fleece for the back (my family loves these fleece backed quilts I do for lap quilts!) and left the store with a plan. I did all the cutting and ironing, J helped with the sewing.
and he laid out his own pattern of blocks for front and back. He also helped tie the finished product. I think we make a good team. Check out the final version!

And yes, that's a bright hunter orange! How could I resist when he was so earnest in helping this entire project along?
